Combo Test Or Single Test - Industry dynamics

A combo test is not automatically a better product than a single test.
It depends on how the buyer plans to sell it.
In veterinary diagnostics, combo tests are attractive for obvious reasons:
Fewer test devices.
More information from one sample.
More convenience for the end user.
But distributors have to look beyond convenience.
A combo test may also mean:
• Higher unit cost
• Different customer acceptance
• More explanation from the sales team
• Different inventory planning
• A smaller target customer group in some markets
Single tests can still make more sense when clinics want to test one specific disease, keep the price lower, or follow their existing diagnostic workflow.
I have seen buyers ask:
“Which one should we take — single tests or combo tests?”
My answer is usually another question:
“Who are your customers, and how are they currently testing?”
That matters more than simply choosing the product with more parameters.
For a distributor, the best SKU is not the one with the longest test name.
It is the one that fits the way customers actually buy and use the product.
